Racing Incident Report
STRATEGY began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. Because of this, M Nunes lost the use of his left stirrup for a considerable distance. As the gates opened, JOYFUL SPIRIT, which had been fractious, threw its head to the left, then bounded in the air, began awkwardly and lost a significant amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, JOYFUL SPIRIT will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. RAIDER was slow to begin. On jumping, ANALYST shifted in and bumped LISBOA STAND. After the 1000 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS was steadied when awkwardly placed between ANALYST and BUMPER BUMPER which at this time shifted in. After this, KEY TO SUCCESS was ridden along to maintain its position and shifted out to avoid the heels of ANALYST which was inconvenienced in front of it. As a result of this, BUMPER BUMPER was carried wider. Near the 900 Metres, TRIUMPHANT UNICORN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MY CHOICE which was steadied when being taken in by ROCK N ROLL KID which got its head on the side and shifted in away from MUNSON. No action was taken. O Chavez (CROWN'S GIFT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of STRATEGY, causing that horse to be carried in and cause crowding on its inside to TRIUMPHANT UNICORN and ANALYST which as a result both lost their rightful running and checked. O Chavez was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Saturday 12 February 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 2 February 2005. In addition, O Chavez was fined $15,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Shortly after this incident, STRATEGY shifted out and was checked away from the heels of CROWN'S GIFT. Near the 800 Metres, MY CHOICE was crowded for room between ROCK N ROLL KID which shifted in slightly and LISBOA STAND which shifted towards the outside of the heels of HELENE PILLAGING. Near the 700 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS got its head up when awkwardly placed outside TRIUMPHANT UNICORN. At the 700 Metres, ANALYST became unbalanced after bumping the running rail. Making the Home Turn, ANALYST was checked when crowded for room inside TRIUMPHANT UNICORN which shifted in after racing tight inside KEY TO SUCCESS which itself shifted in slightly. No action was taken. In the Straight, BUMPER BUMPER hung in. CROWN'S GIFT and TRIUMPHANT UNICORN were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CROWN'S GIFT and TRIUMPHANT UNICORN after the race did not show any significant findings. ROCK N ROLL KID, HELENE PILLAGING and GOODY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported STRATEGY had returned with a laceration to the left front cannon.
