Racing Incident Report
Near the 1000 Metres, ALAKAZAM got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CLAWS OF THUNDER which itself was steadied away from the heels of WAIALAE WIN. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, CLAWS OF THUNDER was checked when close to the heels of ALAKAZAM and tight inside WAIALAE WIN which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly when being hard ridden to maintain its position inside LUCKY BIRD which momentarily shifted in. After the 600 Metres, ALAKAZAM, which was racing tight inside WAIALAE WIN, was checked severely to avoid the heels of FANTASTIC WINNER which commenced to give ground quickly. No action was taken. CLAWS OF THUNDER, which was following, shifted out to avoid the heels of ALAKAZAM and caused crowding on its outside to KASHMAC which as a result was checked. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in while they considered if AMICABLE had had an unfair start. The official videos of the start were reviewed. Mr A T Millard, trainer of AMICABLE, was interviewed. As G Schofield, the rider of AMICABLE, was receiving medical attention, he was unable to be interviewed. It was established just prior to the gates opening AMICABLE lunged forward, broke open the front gates of its stall and at that time was being restrained by a barrier attendant. As a result of being restrained, AMICABLE got its head up, reared and dislodged G Schofield. In the circumstances, the Stewards considered AMICABLE had had an unfair start and accordingly deemed the horse to be a non-runner [Rule 12(19)]. Before being allowed to race again, AMICABLE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. FANTASTIC WINNER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FANTASTIC WINNER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had finished distressed. The performance of FANTASTIC WINNER, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, FANTASTIC WINNER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALAKAZAM and HAPPY FORTUNE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, ALAKAZAM was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ALAKAZAM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY FORTUNE after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY BIRD, SPEED WINNER and NOBLE GLORY were sent for sampling.
