Racing Incident Report
TOUCH OF LAND was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right front foot). While parading before the race, GREYS INN spread its right front plate. This plate was re-set. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After being boxed, PERFECT PARTNER became fractious and broke through the front gates of its stall. PERFECT PARTNER was quickly reined in, returned to the Start and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. AIN'T HERE, which was restless in the stalls, sat back as the gates opened, bounded in the air and lost ground. On jumping, RUSSIAN PEARL was checked and GRAND ARMEE and PHOENIX REACH crowded for room between PERFECT PARTNER which shifted out slightly and EPALO which on jumping got its head on the side and shifted in. Also on jumping, ELEGANT FASHION was crowded for room between VENGEANCE OF RAIN which shifted out and GREYS INN which bumped the inside gate of its stall and shifted in. After the 1600 Metres, VENGEANCE OF RAIN raced tight inside ELVSTROEM which was proving difficult to settle. At the 400 Metres, PHOENIX REACH blundered after improving on the heels of VENGEANCE OF RAIN. D Whyte (GRAND ARMEE) said he was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said the crowding GRAND ARMEE received at the start was of no significance to the horse's performance and it raced flat throughout. He said following the race the connections had advised him that in their opinion GRAND ARMEE may now be in need of a spell. GRAND ARMEE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of GRAND ARMEE after the race did not show any significant findings. VENGEANCE OF RAIN and GREYS INN were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported VENGEANCE OF RAIN had sustained a wound to the right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, VENGEANCE OF RAIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 25 April 2005)
RUSSIAN PEARL was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have an injury to the left front tendon. Before being allowed to race again, RUSSIAN PEARL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
