Racing Incident Report

SUPER SPECIAL was withdrawn on 20.5.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FLAG FINDER (A Delpech). Before being allowed to race again, SUPER SPECIAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BRIGHT AND GAY was slow to begin, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of WITHALLMYHEART. FILEBO was slow to begin. After the 1100 Metres, BROAD SPECTRUM was momentarily steadied away from the heels of CAN OPENER which got its head on the side and shifted in away from WINNING CHAMP. Near the 1000 Metres, BROAD SPECTRUM was steadied when again crowded for room inside CAN OPENER which after having initially been taken in by WINNING CHAMP shifted in further away from that horse. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, BROAD SPECTRUM became unbalanced when racing tight between EXHILARATION and TOFFEE, then after this commenced to hang out. Near the 700 Metres, CAN OPENER again got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of WINNING CHAMP. Making the Home Turn, LUCKY STRAVINSKY hung out. After the 300 Metres, BRIGHT AND GAY hung out, then after the 200 Metres hung in and for some distance was awkwardly placed behind FILEBO. Near the 200 Metres, CAN OPENER was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between LUCKY STRAVINSKY and TOFFEE which shifted in when barely clear. Shortly after this, D Whyte, the rider of CAN OPENER, dropped his whip. For the major part of the race, EXPEDITIOUS raced wide and without cover. TOFFEE and LUCKY STRAVINSKY were sent for sampling.
