Racing Incident Report
FOREVER WIN began awkwardly, threw its head in the air and lost ground. From the outside gate, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT was immediately taken back and shifted across behind runners. Shortly after the start, KING HOGAN shifted out and bumped COUNTRY BOY. KING HOGAN then shifted in, hampering SURVEYOR. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, FOREVER WIN, which was hard ridden to improve its position, was steadied when crowded for room by MASTERY (L Innes) which shifted in. L Innes was reprimanded and advised he would be expected to be sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. Near the 1100 Metres, KING HOGAN, which was inclined to lay out, was checked when crowded for room by COUNTRY BOY which despite the efforts of its rider got its head on the side and shifted in away from INSIDE MAIL. SHANGHAI KING, which was following KING HOGAN, was hampered in consequence. After this, COUNTRY BOY was awkwardly placed on the heels of INSIDE MAIL, shifted out and was obliged to race three wide without cover for the remainder of the race. Near the 700 Metres, FOREVER WIN improved into a tight run inside MASTERY. For a short distance after this, FOREVER WIN got its head up when being checked when MASTERY shifted back in slightly. Shortly after entering the Straight, SURVEYOR was checked off the heels of SHANGHAI KING which itself was hampered when taken in by KING HOGAN which when being ridden along got its head on the side and shifted in. In the early part of the Straight, KA KA WIN had difficulty obtaining clear running and was shifted out from behind COUNTRY BOY to obtain clear running. Near the 200 Metres, SURVEYOR, which was attempting to obtain a run on the outside of KING HOGAN was steadied to avoid the heels of that horse which shifted out. A short distance after, SURVEYOR was checked when crowded for room between INSIDE MAIL and KING HOGAN (G Mossé) which after initially shifting out of its own accord then shifted out away from FORTUNE SMILES which itself was shifting out slightly at this time. When SURVEYOR was checked, it shifted out, resulting in INSIDE MAIL being tightened out onto MASTERY and KIDDY SING, causing those horses to be badly hampered. The Stewards were of the opinion that the manner in which KING HOGAN was racing as well as the shift from FORTUNE SMILES had contributed to this incident, therefore no action was taken. However, G Mossé was advised to make every effort to keep his mount straight wherever possible. Passing the 100 Metres, FOREVER WIN, which was closing the race off strongly, was checked when disappointed for running between SHANGHAI KING and FORTUNE SMILES which shifted in slightly when giving ground. Approaching the 50 Metres, SURVEYOR was steadied when disappointed for running between KING HOGAN and WONG'S SUCCESS which got its head on the side and shifted in. In the Straight, COUNTRY BOY hung in. COUNTRY BOY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of COUNTRY BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. MILLENNIUM SPIRIT and KA KA WIN were sent for sampling.
