Racing Incident Report

In the Parade Ring, the tongue tie fitted to CARELESS WHISPER loosened. The tongue tie was refitted after the horse arrived at the Start. REGAL THRILLS was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between OKEYDOKEY and GRAND FIGHTER which was carried in by STARDANE. In this incident, GRAND FIGHTER was also inconvenienced and lost ground. Near the 900 Metres, HELENE ELEGANCE was steadied to avoid the heels of FLYING SPRINTER (H K Yim) which shifted in when not properly clear. H K Yim was advised to exercise more care. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, AMO was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of CARELESS WHISPER. Making the Home Turn, CARELESS WHISPER, which was hanging out, lost ground when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FLYING SPRINTER and outside AMO which at this stage shifted out. On straightening, OKEYDOKEY was steadied when close to the heels of ALWAYS WELCOME. Apprentice H W Lai (KEEN FLYER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 200 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting in when not clear of AMO, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of DIAMOND CENTURY which as a result was checked. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Lai to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Wednesday 2 November 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 22 October 2005. After the 100 Metres, KEEN FLYER, which was commencing to give ground, got its head up when momentarily steadied as a result of crowding between FLYING SPRINTER which shifted in slightly and AMO (C Munce) which shifted out. In the circumstances, C Munce was told to exercise greater care. Throughout the race, EVER MORE raced wide and without cover. DIAMOND CENTURY, AMO and FLYING SPRINTER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported DIAMOND CENTURY had bled from both nostrils.
