Racing Incident Report

COSMO STAR was slow to begin and then was bumped by CAPABILITY which began awkwardly and shifted in, causing D Whyte, its rider, to become unbalanced. DEFLECT was slow to begin. FAT DRAGON was a little slow to begin and then bumped with PAY-DAY. CAPABEL despite being ridden along failed to muster speed. In the early stages, FAT DRAGON proved difficult to settle. After the 1200 Metres, CLANG'S PRIDE, which was hanging out, was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINNING EMPEROR. After this, CLANG'S PRIDE continued to hang out for the remainder of the race and WINNING EMPEROR continued to race wide and without cover. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, CAPABILITY got its head on the side and shifted away from the running rail. For some distance after the 400 Metres, COSMO STAR had difficulty obtaining clear running behind FAT DRAGON. Also for a considerable distance after the 400 Metres, ACE KING was held up and unable to improve. Near the 300 Metres, FAT DRAGON when under pressure hung out, then shortly afterwards commenced to give ground and near the 200 Metres was steadied when crowded for room between COSMO STAR and PAY-DAY which shifted in while hanging. Near the 100 Metres, COSMO STAR was steadied to avoid the heels of PAY-DAY (C Brown) which shifted in while continuing to hang. C Brown was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. When questioned regarding the improved performance of PLEASURE PLEASURE, Mr A Lee, trainer of the horse which was having its first start for his stable over 1400 Metres today, said in the past the horse has been disappointing and because of this today from barrier 1 over an increased distance it was decided to have the horse ridden in a more forward position if possible. He said in addition he wanted to make some use of the horse having in mind its light weight which he did acknowledge was the same weight carried at its last start. He said he was satisfied with the manner in which C Munce had ridden PLEASURE PLEASURE at its last start, however, after consulting with the connections of the horse it was decided to seek the services of Y T Cheng to ride the horse today as he has been having a good deal of success in recent times and it was hoped might lead to a change in luck. He did say the win of PLEASURE PLEASURE today was not anticipated by the stable. Mr Lee was told where circumstances permitted it would be expected that PLEASURE PLEASURE would be ridden in a similar manner in its upcoming races. FAT DRAGON was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FAT DRAGON, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FAT DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CAPABILITY, PLEASURE PLEASURE and GOT IT GOOD were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported WINNING EMPEROR had bled from both nostrils.
