Racing Incident Report

On jumping, CONESTOGA was crowded for room between GRAND COMMANDS which shifted in and LUCKY WINNER which began awkwardly, got its head up and shifted out. LUCKY WINNER lost ground in this incident. Shortly after the start, CARRIZO CREEK was steadied when crowded for room between NOBLE MAN and DRAGON AND GOLD which shifted out. From the outside gate, AMSTERDAM was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, THE WORLD OF LOVE became unbalanced behind after being bumped on the hindquarters by NOBLE MAN which shifted out. NOBLE MAN made the turn near the 600 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and was close to the heels of FLYING SPRINTER which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. At the 200 Metres, LUCKY WINNER was checked to avoid the heels of CONESTOGA which had been hanging in and was then checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of FLYING SPRINTER (H K Yim) which shifted out away from NOBLE MAN after initially been carried out by that horse which in turn was carried wider by THE WORLD OF LOVE. In the circumstances, H K Yim was reprimanded and told to exercise more care. After this, CONESTOGA continued to hang in and proved difficult to ride out. Throughout the race, FLYING SPRINTER raced wide and without cover. C Munce (PICTURE PERFECT) explained he had been informed by the trainer that the horse in recent starts had been over-racing and failing to finish its races off when racing in a forward position and in blinkers. He said because of this tonight from a wide barrier and with the blinkers removed he was asked to allow PICTURE PERFECT to obtain a position worse than midfield in an endeavour to have the horse close the race off. He said because of this after beginning well he steadied PICTURE PERFECT and shifted it across behind runners. He said PICTURE PERFECT travelled comfortably in the run, however, kept on only one-paced. When questioned regarding the poor performance of ROYAL DECREE, D Whyte said he maintained a position behind the speed from a more favourable draw tonight. He said prior to straightening ROYAL DECREE became unbalanced, bumped the running rail and after this did not lengthen in its stride. He said on pulling up ROYAL DECREE made a loud breathing noise. ROYAL DECREE and GRAND COMMANDS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ROYAL DECREE and GRAND COMMANDS after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL DECREE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NOBLE MAN and AMSTERDAM were sent for sampling.
