Racing Incident Report

KING HESPERUS was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SMART HORSE was steadied when awkwardly placed between ROYAL FALCON and SHINING DAY which shifted out. After the 1100 Metres, KING OF WIN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of GRAND FIGHTER. After this, KING OF WIN shifted out to race three wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. Approaching the 700 Metres, HAPPY KID was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SHINING DAY. Making the Home Turn, SHINING DAY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HAPPY KID. Near the 300 Metres, LANCETTIER was steadied and shifted to the outside of SPEEDING MOLLY to obtain clear running. At the 300 Metres, SPEEDING MOLLY, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of HAPPY KID. After the 200 Metres, KIDDY SING was checked when crowded for room between SMART HORSE which had improved on its inside and GRAND FIGHTER (Apprentice K H Chan) which when giving ground drifted in. In the circumstances, Apprentice Chan was severely reprimanded and told in future he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. F Coetzee (SHINING DAY) said the horse, which was racing up a class today, was not able to lead. He said in the past SHINING DAY has only performed well when able to dictate from the front. He said after entering the Back Straight SHINING DAY when racing without cover travelled satisfactorily, however, as soon as KING OF WIN shifted out in front of him, SHINING DAY dropped the bit. SHINING DAY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SHINING DAY after the race did not show any significant findings. FAT CHOY FOREVER, VICTORY TREASURE and EASY GAME were sent for sampling.
