Racing Incident Report

CARELESS WHISPER was withdrawn on 2.12.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ACCOLADE (C Brown). Before being allowed to race again, CARELESS WHISPER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, SUPER SPECIAL became fractious and reared, causing A Delpech, its rider, to be dislodged. When A Delpech was dislodged, he sustained an injury to his face. Acting on the advice of the Club's medical officers that A Delpech was not fit to ride, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SUPER SPECIAL. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER SPECIAL will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. As the gates opened, LIVERPOOLTHEGREAT put its head down and was slow to begin. ACCOLADE was slow to begin. On jumping CHING HOI STAR shifted out and made contact with EUPHORIC KID. After this, CHING HOI STAR shifted in and made contact with HAPPY ELITE. Shortly after the start, LIVERPOOLTHEGREAT was checked and ACCOLADE steadied when crowded for room between HAPPY ELITE which shifted in and SUPER FIGHTER which was carried out by DR POSSI which shifted ground. At the 900 Metres, ACCOLADE became unbalanced after being bumped by EUPHORIC KID. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, EUPHORIC KID and SUPER FIGHTER were hampered and carried wider by DR POSSI which got its head on the side and shifted out away from the heels of HAPPY ELITE which was steadied in front. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, ACCOLADE hung out and caused inconvenience to CROISSANT. Also making the turn at the 700 Metres, LIVERPOOLTHEGREAT hung out. Near the 600 Metres, CROISSANT was bumped by ACCOLADE which continued to hang out. C Munce (CROISSANT) said he had been instructed to ride the horse somewhere around midfield if possible. He said CROISSANT possesses good barrier speed, but in the past when use of this had been made CROISSANT had failed to finish its races off, it was therefore felt if CROISSANT was able to obtain a position with some cover it might close the race off more strongly. He said CROISSANT began best and because of his instructions he did not ride along in the early stages, but allowed runners drawn to his inside to progress with the hope of being able to shift in behind them. He said he shifted across to race outside EUPHORIC KID near the 900 Metres. He said approaching the turn at the 700 Metres runners in front of him began to bunch up, so he elected to come back and follow EUPHORIC KID. He said at the 700 Metres he was interfered with and after this he commenced to ride CROISSANT along in an endeavour to make up lost ground. He said because of the way the race was run in the early stages, CROISSANT got further back than he had anticipated. ACCOLADE and EUPHORIC KID were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ACCOLADE and EUPHORIC KID after the race did not show any significant findings. HAPPY ELITE and SUPER FIGHTER were sent for sampling.
