Racing Incident Report
SELF FLIT was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground after being steadied when crowded for room between STAY YOUNG which was carried out by CHEEKY and WHATABOB which was carried in by HAPPEE OWNER. At the 900 Metres, BEING FAMOUS was hampered and carried wider by LIBERAL'S CHOICE (G Schofield) which after being crossed by GREAT DELIGHT shifted to the outside of that horse. G Schofield was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he is not permitted to make room for himself. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SELF FLIT was crowded for room inside FIFTY FIFTY which at this time when proving difficult to settle was steadied away from the heels of WHATABOB. After the 800 Metres, as the tempo was steadying, WHATABOB got its head on the side, shifted out away from BEING FAMOUS and as a result carried LIGHTNING STAR wider. At the 300 Metres, CHEEKY was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of BEING FAMOUS which at this time commenced to give ground. Over the concluding stages, HAPPEE OWNER raced tight inside FIVE GRAINS. Also over the concluding stages, PALETTE NATURAL got its head on the side and hung in. For the major part of the race, LIGHTNING STAR travelled wide and without cover. BEING FAMOUS and WHATABOB were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BEING FAMOUS and WHATABOB after the race did not show any significant findings. LIGHTNING STAR, FIVE GRAINS and HAPPEE OWNER were sent for sampling. After the race, D Whyte, rider of FIFTY FIFTY, reported the horse was not striding out freely. FIFTY FIFTY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FIFTY FIFTY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 28 December 2005)
After the race, the rider of FIFTY FIFTY reported the horse was not striding out freely. FIFTY FIFTY was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. FIFTY FIFTY was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer C Fownes yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a small wound and sore swelling to the left front cannon. As previously advised, FIFTY FIFTY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
