Racing Incident Report
GOLDEN STRIDE was a little slow to begin, then lost further ground after making contact with the hindquarters of KING PALM. Shortly after the start, FUJIAN PRINCE and WHIPLASH were crowded for room inside EUPHORIC KID which shifted in slightly. Near the 1000 Metres, FUJIAN PRINCE was checked when crowded for room between WHIPLASH which shifted out slightly and SURE FORTUNE which got its head on the side and shifted in while hanging despite the efforts of Apprentice H W Lai, its rider. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After this, SURE FORTUNE proved difficult to settle and pulled its way into a forward position. KING PALM made the turn at the 1000 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of RED STORM RISING. For some distance after the 800 Metres, FUJIAN PRINCE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WHIPLASH. Also after the 800 Metres, EUPHORIC KID, which was racing close to the heels of HAPPY SUNDAY, got its head up and shifted out momentarily. At the 500 Metres, FUJIAN PRINCE was again steadied away from the heels of WHIPLASH. Also at the 500 Metres, ACTIVE VALOUR became unbalanced. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 100 Metres, ACTIVE VALOUR, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied when unable to continue improving between EUPHORIC KID and SURE FORTUNE which shifted in slightly while hanging. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CHOSEN ONE, A Delpech said his mount travelled comfortably throughout the race. He said near the 500 Metres CHOSEN ONE bumped the running rail when awkwardly placed inside WHIPLASH, however, this was of little significance. He said in the Straight CHOSEN ONE usually closes off strongly, however, tonight did not respond to his riding. He did say he had ridden CHOSEN ONE in its final piece of work leading into tonight's race and in his opinion this work was satisfactory. CHOSEN ONE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHOSEN ONE after the race did not show any significant findings. DR POSSI and HAPPY SUNDAY were sent for sampling.
