Racing Incident Report

Before being saddled, it was noted STEP FORWARD had lost its left hind plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. OSCAR STAR began awkwardly and shortly afterwards lost further ground as a result of being crowded for room between NAPA which shifted in and FAVOURITE RETURN which on jumping was carried out by SIR OCTAVIUS. JOIN VICTORY began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall, then made contact with BRILLIANT FLASH, threw its head about and was taken across behind runners. In the early stages, from the outside barrier, STRIKE TO WIN travelled wide and without cover and at the 1200 Metres went forward to cross and race outside the lead. After the 1200 Metres, SIR OCTAVIUS was crowded for room inside VINCERE which itself was awkwardly placed inside the heels of STEP FORWARD. In the middle stages, CENTURY SUPER STAR proved difficult to settle when racing behind VINCERE. Shortly after straightening, VINCERE and SIR OCTAVIUS bumped. In the Straight, CENTURY SUPER STAR hung in and proved difficult to ride and near the 200 Metres made contact with STEP FORWARD. At the 200 Metres, FAVOURITE RETURN, which was closing the race off and unable to obtain clear running, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of SIR OCTAVIUS. Near the 100 Metres, FAVOURITE RETURN became unbalanced behind after being bumped by JOIN VICTORY which was carried in slightly by STEP FORWARD which in turn was carried in by CENTURY SUPER STAR. In this incident, JOIN VICTORY was steadied. Over the concluding stages, VINCERE got its head on the side and hung out. Because of this, D Whyte, its rider, prior to the winning post stopped riding and straightened his mount. Also over the concluding stages, JOIN VICTORY had difficulty obtaining clear running and was not fully tested. In the run to the winning post, CENTURY SUPER STAR was awkwardly placed outside the heels of VINCERE and because of this was not ridden out fully to the end of the race. BRILLIANT FLASH and VINCERE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SIR OCTAVIUS had lost its right hind plate. Also after the race, it was noted OSCAR STAR had blood present at the right nostril. An endoscopic examination showed the blood not to have originated from the lungs and therefore OSCAR STAR was deemed to have not bled.
