Racing Incident Report
RENA'S WUNDERBAR was slow to begin. On jumping, BRAVERY LUCK and SPEED WINNER bumped. Also on jumping, WAVY PEAK was bumped by AMBITIOUS MARJU which shifted out after being bumped by STAR OF NORTHERN which began awkwardly and shifted ground. Shortly after the start, SEVEN STARS was bumped by SPECTACULAR TIMES. MILLENNIUM DAWN made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly and hung out. H K Yim (WAVY PEAK) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 800 Metres he shifted his mount in when not clear of HAPPY HEROES, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for H K Yim's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Monday 24 April 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday 12 April 2006. Over the final 350 Metres, METRO LEADER was held up and unable to improve when racing behind BRAVERY LUCK and inside SPEED WINNER, both of which were giving ground. Because of this, METRO LEADER was not tested. After the 200 Metres, SPECTACULAR TIMES became unbalanced in its action and was then eased out of the race. SPECTACULAR TIMES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SPECTACULAR TIMES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was severely lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SPECTACULAR TIMES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the 100 Metres, MILLENNIUM DAWN was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of HAPPY HEROES. Also after the 100 Metres, SPEED WINNER was steadied away from the heels of SPECTACULAR TIMES. When questioned, W M Lai (WISHING WELL) said he had been instructed to lead on the horse if he was able to do so without having to ride along or alternatively to obtain a position with cover. He said WISHING WELL began best, he allowed the horse to stride forward for the first 100 Metres without riding it along. He said WAVY PEAK improved on his inside and BRAVERY LUCK continued forward along the rail, he therefore near the 1400 Metres decided to steady WISHING WELL and take the horse back in an endeavour to obtain a position with cover behind FUJIAN PRINCE. He said to have continued on forward would have resulted in him travelling three wide and without cover and whilst the position behind FUJIAN PRINCE which he obtained after the 1200 Metres was further back than intended, in his opinion this was preferable. He said WISHING WELL travelled comfortably in the run, responded to his riding in the early part of the Straight, however, over the concluding stages it did not finish the race off. Mr T K Ng, trainer of WISHING WELL, confirmed the riding instructions issued to W M Lai and said whilst at its only success which was over 1800 Metres WISHING WELL had led, on that occasion it had carried a light weight with the benefit of a 10 lb apprentice claim. He said subsequently WISHING WELL had performed satisfactorily when not leading. He said today over 1600 Metres he was concerned if too much use was made of the horse to lead it would not close the race off. He said in the circumstances he was satisfied with the riding of W M Lai. W M Lai was told in the opinion of the Stewards his ride was not one of his better ones and he should at all times endeavour to ride his mounts in a manner which is not open to query. WISHING WELL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, WISHING WELL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WISHING WELL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FUJIAN PRINCE and RENA'S WUNDERBAR were sent for sampling.
