Racing Incident Report

SUPER COMBED began awkwardly. After the 1600 Metres, SATURN proved difficult to settle when racing wide and without cover and then was allowed to stride forward into the lead. After the 1200 Metres, VERY FIT, which had shifted away from the rail, was bumped by DR WELL which shifted in. Y T Cheng (VERY FIT) dropped his whip at the 300 Metres. When questioned regarding the turnaround in form as opposed to its last start of DR WELL, Mr J Size, trainer of the horse, said he was not able to offer any explanation. He said when DR WELL last raced which was over 1800 Metres, the horse came under pressure prior to straightening and failed to respond after following the leader in the run. He said on that occasion W M Lai who rode the horse reported to him DR WELL was not comfortable when pressured. Mr Size said leading into that race the work of DR WELL had been as usual and following the race the official veterinary inspection of the horse did not show any significant findings. Mr Size said in the ensuing days DR WELL was thoroughly examined by his stable Veterinary Surgeon and again there were no apparent abnormalities found. He said because of this he continued to work DR WELL in accordance with its usual pattern. He said today he sought the services of C Munce in preference to W M Lai who rode the horse last start. He added last start C Munce had initially been sought to ride DR WELL, however, he had a prior engagement in the race. He said DR WELL obtained a nice forward position in an evenly run race on a track that suited horses in forward positions. Mr Size said he was at best hoping DR WELL would have acquitted itself satisfactorily in today's race. The Stewards advised Mr Size to ensure horses trained by him perform satisfactorily wherever circumstances permit and to avoid where possible in and out running. FLAMING LAMBORGINI was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, FLAMING LAMBORGINI was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FLAMING LAMBORGINI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LIGHTNING STAR, which finished tailed out, was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, LIGHTNING STAR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the trachea. The performance of LIGHTNING STAR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LIGHTNING STAR will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DR WELL and SATURN were sent for sampling.
