Racing Incident Report

LEGIONNAIRE began awkwardly, shifted out and then stumbled. Because of this, Apprentice K L Chui, its rider, was almost dislodged and LEGIONNAIRE lost a considerable amount of ground. EASY GAME and TOP HONOR were slow to begin. An inquiry into the reason for TOP HONOR falling near the 500 Metres will be held at a date to be fixed as G Mossé, the horse's rider, was not available after being taken to hospital. When TOP HONOR fell, PROGRESSING TIMES, BOUNTIFUL and LEGIONNAIRE, which were following, were checked severely to avoid the fallen horse. On straightening, BYRON was bumped and carried wider by SING FAY FAY which at this time was shifted to the outside of ARROGANCE to obtain clear running. For some distance after this, SING FAY FAY and BYRON raced tight. A Delpech (KING HESPERUS) explained he had been instructed to have the horse travelling in 4th or 5th position. He said it was intended to go forward early and then allow runners to cross, however, after reaching the lead in the early stages KING HESPERUS travelled strongly for him and when no runners improved on his outside, he allowed the horse to continue on in the lead. When questioned regarding the poor performance of EASY GAME, C Munce said the horse today was quieter than usual during its preliminary and in the barriers. He said EASY GAME raced somewhat "flat". D Whyte (RIVER JORDAN) said in his opinion the horse's poor performance was due to it not handling today's track conditions. RIVER JORDAN was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. LEGIONNAIRE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of RIVER JORDAN and LEGIONNAIRE after the race did not show any significant findings. KAISER'S PRIZE and KING HESPERUS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted TOP HONOR had sustained a laceration wound to the right hind pastern. Before being allowed to race again, TOP HONOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
