Racing Incident Report

SUPERB was withdrawn on 18.9.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GRASS HOPPER (Apprentice C W Wong). Before being allowed to race again, SUPERB will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HAPPY ASH was slow to begin. NAMJONG GOODLUCK was a little slow to begin, then lost further ground when crowded for room between KAISER'S CHOIX and OKEYDOKEY. Near the 900 Metres, KAISER'S CHOIX was steadied away from the heels of OKEYDOKEY (Apprentice K L Chui) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Chui was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care. Near the 800 Metres, RACING SPIRIT was momentarily steadied away from the heels of OKEYDOKEY. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, FLYING KENNY was awkwardly placed inside KAISER'S CHOIX. On straightening, MILLION CHASE was steadied away from the heels of OKEYDOKEY which itself was momentarily steadied away from the heels of GRASS HOPPER. At the 200 Metres, M W Leung (FLYING KENNY) momentarily dropped his left rein. D Whyte (TOP STITCH) said he was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said despite being taken on in the lead by GRASS HOPPER, he believed TOP STITCH should have held on better than it did in the Home Straight. He said the horse trialed well at Happy Valley prior to tonight's race. TOP STITCH was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, TOP STITCH was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus and blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, TOP STITCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SIR OCTAVIUS and FLYING KENNY were sent for sampling.
