Racing Incident Report

SHATIN WIN WIN began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, SHATIN WIN WIN will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. THAT'S WIN was slow to begin and shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room between PALIO KING which shifted in and DEVON FLAIR which shifted out away from PIONERO. At the 500 Metres, FIRST KNIGHT was steadied away from the heels of WAFER KING. At the 200 Metres when being shifted to the outside of PICTURE PERFECT, PIONERO (S Dye) bumped PALIO KING which became unbalanced and bumped CRUSADER OF GOLD. S Dye was told to exercise greater care. Also at the 200 Metres, JADE DRAGONFLY, which for a short distance had been unable to obtain clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of DEVON FLAIR. Throughout the race, CRUSADER OF GOLD travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, S Dye said on straightening he positioned his mount to improve between DEVON FLAIR and PICTURE PERFECT. He said as he rode towards that position at the 300 Metres, PICTURE PERFECT shifted in slightly and he formed the opinion that he would be better served by shifting to the outside of PICTURE PERFECT to ensure his mount had clear running. For this reason, PIONERO was not able to obtain clear running from the 300 Metres until the 200 Metres. He said as he did shift PIONERO out, the rider of PICTURE PERFECT straightened his mount which then enabled JADE DRAGONFLY to improve into a run between DEVON FLAIR and PICTURE PERFECT. B Prebble (WAFER KING) said from a wide barrier the intention had been to ride the horse quietly as he had done in similar circumstances before. He said he obtained a position behind THAT'S WIN, however, near the 1000 Metres he became concerned that WAFER KING was not striding out as he thought it should. He said at no stage of the remainder of the race did WAFER KING feel comfortable and was disappointing. WAFER KING and FIRST KNIGHT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WAFER KING and FIRST KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. JADE DRAGONFLY and PICTURE PERFECT were sent for sampling.
