Racing Incident Report

DON RICARDO was withdrawn on 17.10.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right fore medical fetlock/cannon sore swelling) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter KAISER'S PRIZE (F Coetzee). Before being allowed to race again, DON RICARDO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ELEGANT KING PRAWN, which was racing in blinkers for the first time, bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. With the intention of being ridden quietly, SYDNEY EXPRESS was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, ELEGANT KING PRAWN commenced to over-race, was shifted out away from the heels of SPEEDING MOLLY and in doing so caused inconvenience to CZAR OF PRUSSIA which was carried wider. After this, ELEGANT KING PRAWN continued to prove difficult to settle and improved around the field when racing without cover. At the 600 Metres, WHIPLASH and VICTORY TURBO were crowded for room when ELEGANT KING PRAWN momentarily shifted in when not clear. At the 500 Metres, SYDNEY EXPRESS, which was reluctant to hold its position, was checked when crowded for room inside MOVE IT which when hanging in shifted slightly despite the efforts of its rider. No action was taken. CZAR OF PRUSSIA, which was following, was steadied and shifted out away from SYDNEY EXPRESS. Shortly after straightening, GOOD VIEW SUCCESS, which was commencing to close the race off, was steadied and shifted to the inside of SYDNEY EXPRESS, then at the 100 Metres was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of KAISER'S PRIZE. Passing the 400 Metres, KAISER'S PRIZE raced tight inside SPEEDING MOLLY. In the Straight, MOVE IT hung in and near the 100 Metres, O Doleuze, its rider, dropped his left rein. At the 100 Metres, MR COOL was steadied away from the heels of SYDNEY EXPRESS. When questioned, G Mossé (MR COOL) said prior to the race it had been decided to ride the horse in a rearward position from its wide barrier if circumstances permitted. He said it was anticipated the race would be run at a quick tempo. He said MR COOL began quickly and he then considered allowing the horse to go forward as it usually does. He said when looking to his inside shortly after the start he noticed VICTORY TURBO and WHIPLASH being hard ridden to go forward and he felt he would have to make too much use of MR COOL to clear those runners, he therefore followed the instructions and took MR COOL back. He said as he did this he noticed ELEGANT KING PRAWN, which was over-racing, was in difficulty, so he allowed that horse to go clear prior to shifting in. ELEGANT KING PRAWN and SMART HORSE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ELEGANT KING PRAWN after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, SMART HORSE, which finished tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being permitted to race again, SMART HORSE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MOVE IT and WHIPLASH were sent for sampling.
