Racing Incident Report

Shortly after the start, SEA TREASURE and G-ONE LEADING were checked when crowded for room between X-SPEED which shifted out and MYTHIC STEED which was carried in by CHINA SPORTFIELD which got its head on the side and shifted ground. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SEA TREASURE was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of LAZY BUDDIES which at this time had shifted to the inside of G-ONE LEADING. M Nunes (CHINA SPORTFIELD) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that making the first turn he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of X-SPEED and BEST CHOICE, causing those horses to be crowded for room, X-SPEED to be checked and lose its rightful running. M Nunes was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 2 November 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 25 October 2006. In addition, M Nunes was fined $30,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. In the early and middle stages, GOLD DIGGER travelled wide and without cover. In the middle stages, BIG WINNER was left racing without cover, then making the turn at the 700 Metres was carried wider by SO NICE which at this time shifted to the outside of MYTHIC STEED. Making the Home Turn, SO NICE hung out. At the 300 Metres, X-SPEED, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of SEA TREASURE which shifted out and endeavoured to find clear running. SEA TREASURE was not able to obtain clear running between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres. After the 200 Metres, G-ONE LEADING was momentarily crowded for room inside CHINA SPORTFIELD. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of A Delpech (G-ONE LEADING), 5th placegetter, did not affect the horse's finishing position, he nonetheless was told he should ensure he rides his mounts out at least hands and heels to the winning post where possible. The performance of SO NICE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SO NICE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of X-SPEED, Apprentice C W Wong said the intention had been to endeavour to obtain a position on the fence if possible. He said as BEST CHOICE held its position on his inside, he was not able to obtain a position on the fence. He said X-SPEED was then inclined to lay in throughout the race and did not appear comfortable racing away from the rail. He said as a consequence X-SPEED did not finish the race off. SO NICE and X-SPEED were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SO NICE and X-SPEED after the race did not show any significant findings. LAZY BUDDIES and MAGIC TOUCH were sent for sampling.
