Racing Incident Report
Before being saddled, it was noted INSPIRATION had lost its right hind plate. The horse was re-plated and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. RED STORM RISING began awkwardly, causing W M Lai, its rider, to become badly unbalanced and almost be dislodged. As a consequence, RED STORM RISING lost considerable ground. From a wide barrier, INSPIRATION was taken back to a position in midfield with cover, then in the early stages proved very difficult to settle. At the 800 Metres, AMO was checked when crowded for room inside INSPIRATION which shifted ground while continuing to prove difficult to settle. For a considerable distance passing the 800 Metres, INVERNESS, which was proving difficult to settle, raced close to the heels of KIMBERLEY MINES. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, INSPIRATION was checked when crowded for room between HAPPY ELITE which after hanging in and making contact with the hindquarters of KIMBERLEY MINES shifted out slightly and HELENE ELEGANCE (Apprentice P H Lo) which shifted in when not properly clear. In the circumstances, Apprentice Lo was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care when shifting ground. For some distance approaching the Home Turn, INVERNESS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KIMBERLEY MINES. Prior to straightening, INSPIRATION was checked to avoid the heels of HELENE ELEGANCE after being carried out by AMO which at this time improved on the outside of INVERNESS which made the Home Turn awkwardly and shifted ground. No action was taken. Shortly after straightening, DILIGENT was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed inside INVERNESS. Over the concluding stages, BULLDOZER and DILIGENT raced tight. Close to the line, RED STORM RISING was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of INSPIRATION. Throughout the race, HELENE ELEGANCE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. O Doleuze (BULLDOZER) said the intention had been to ride the horse quietly from the outside barrier. He said he was aware RED STORM RISING which had drawn to his inside was often slow to begin, he therefore came out quietly on BULLDOZER and then shortly afterwards crossed to the fence in front of RED STORM RISING. He said BULLDOZER obtained a nice run during the race and was able to close the race off strongly. He did say near the 200 Metres he had to steady BULLDOZER and shift in to continue going forward. HELENE ELEGANCE and BULLDOZER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HELENE ELEGANCE and BULLDOZER after the race did not show any significant findings. DILIGENT, LUCKY STRAVINSKY and WINE WIN were sent for sampling.
