Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, it was noted BIG WINNER had sustained a small laceration to the right front cannon. BIG WINNER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. OPERA MAGIC began awkwardly and then in the early stages travelled wide and without cover. From a wide barrier, TATTENHALL DELIGHT was taken across behind runners. At the 1300 Metres, TATTENHALL DELIGHT was checked to avoid the heels of REWARDING STAR which itself was steadied away from the heels of ALWAYS HAPPY which shifted in when barely clear. Near the 700 Metres, KAISER'S PRIZE became unbalanced when bumped by ALWAYS HAPPY which shifted out away from the heels of OPERA MAGIC which crossed to the lead. At the 500 Metres, TATTENHALL DELIGHT, when unable to improve, was steadied away from the heels of FIGHT BACK, then in the early part of the Straight had difficulty obtaining clear running. Near the 200 Metres, BIG WINNER, which had been held up and unable to obtain clear running, was steadied and shifted to the inside of ALWAYS HAPPY. REWARDING STAR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, REWARDING STAR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. The performance of REWARDING STAR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, REWARDING STAR will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALWAYS HAPPY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. KAISER'S PRIZE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ALWAYS HAPPY and KAISER'S PRIZE after the race did not show any significant findings. KAO AND MING and NAMJONG SMILE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the trachea of BIG WINNER. Before being allowed to race again, BIG WINNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
