Racing Incident Report
GAUCHO began awkwardly. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SUPER PRINCE failed to muster speed. REAL SURPRISE, which made the turn at the 700 Metres awkwardly, hung in and was steadied away from the heels of SUPER PRINCE. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, TOP TOP LIGHT was checked when crowded for room between KIMBERLEY MINES and GOLD MEDAL WINNER (K M Chin) which shifted in when not properly clear. K M Chin was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Also making the turn at the 700 Metres, SUPER PRINCE was steadied away from the heels of GENERAL DANSKE. Throughout the race, GOLD MEDAL WINNER travelled wide and without cover. S Dye (GENERAL DANSKE) said he had been instructed to have the horse in 3rd position if possible as it was anticipated he would be required to make too much use of the horse to maintain the lead. He said he rode along in the early stages and when GAUCHO commenced to shift in after the 1000 Metres he allowed that horse to cross. He said near the 900 Metres he endeavoured to shift away from the rail from behind GAUCHO, however, was not able to do so when JADE DANCER held its position. He said after this GENERAL DANSKE appeared reluctant to hold its position inside JADE DANCER and making the Home Turn despite his riding failed to improve his position. He said in the Straight GENERAL DANSKE kept on fairly, but failed to quicken as he had anticipated. He said in his opinion GENERAL DANSKE at this stage of its career was not comfortable racing inside horses. GENERAL DANSKE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. JADE DANCER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GENERAL DANSKE after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, JADE DANCER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. KIMBO KID and INDUSTRIAL MARVEL were sent for sampling.
