Racing Incident Report
At the time of declarations, D Whyte was declared as the rider of COP HILL LAD and BALL OF FIRE. It was subsequently established that D Whyte had a firm commitment to ride COP HILL LAD. As such, the Stewards permitted F Coetzee to be substituted as the rider of BALL OF FIRE. For this breach, Mr A Schutz, trainer of BALL OF FIRE, was fined $2,000. OH GREAT, SIMPLY THE GREAT and MULTI-WIN SPIRIT were slow to begin. In the early stages, LIGHTNING MOUNT hung in and for a short distance after straightening had difficulty obtaining clear running. At the 800 Metres, OH GREAT was steadied away from the heels of CROWNED GEM which was awkwardly placed inside SUPER which shifted in momentarily away from MULTI-WIN SPIRIT. After the 400 Metres, SUPER was steadied and shifted to the outside of MULTI-WIN SPIRIT. SUPER then hung out and shifted to the outside fence. O Doleuze (MULTI-WIN SPIRIT) said his mount travelled comfortably in the run when on the bridle, however, when shifted to the outside on straightening did not quicken as he anticipated, then over the concluding stages gave ground. He said in his opinion MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was not suited by today's wet track conditions. MULTI-WIN SPIRIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. CROWNED GEM and MAJIN BUU were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MULTI-WIN SPIRIT after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, CROWED GEM was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings other than the horse had lost its left front plate. Also after the race, MAJIN BUU was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, MAJIN BUU will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER and LIGHTNING MOUNT were sent for sampling.
