Racing Incident Report
On jumping, JOYFUL UNION, which had been fractious in the stall, was crowded for room between KNIGHT TEMPLAR and TIMBER CITY which shifted in. DONGGUAN VICTORY was slow to begin. Throughout the race, TIMBER CITY travelled wide and without cover. W M Lai (DOLPHIN STAR) said the intention had been to ride the horse in midfield if possible. He said DOLPHIN STAR began well, he allowed runners on his inside to go forward and then commence to shift across in an attempt to find a position with cover, however, he was not able to do so and as a consequence DOLPHIN STAR travelled very wide and without cover throughout. He said in his opinion this was the reason for the horse's poor performance. When questioned regarding M Nunes, the rider of X-SPEED, being instructed to ride the horse in midfield with cover, Trainer C H Yip explained X-SPEED is a noted on-pace runner, however, he has been disappointed with the manner in which the horse has finished its recent races off. He said today from barrier 9 in a race which he believed would be quickly run, he felt it would be in the best interest of the horse to be ridden with cover in an attempt to see if it would close the race off. M Nunes confirmed the riding instructions and said in his opinion X-SPEED ran satisfactorily when ridden in this manner. Mr Yip said the manner in which X-SPEED will be ridden in its future starts will be dependent on the horse's draw and the anticipated tempo of the race. D Whyte (CENAMIRA) explained the horse did not show speed in the early stages as it had in its recent starts and because of this travelled in a rearward position. He said CENAMIRA was under pressure near the 1000 Metres and whilst it did make up a little ground, it was most disappointing. He said he was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. CENAMIRA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CENAMIRA after the race did not show any significant findings. GLOBAL WAY, COULDN'T CARE LESS and THREE CLUBS were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 21 May 2007)
CENAMIRA, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. CENAMIRA was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer Y O Wong this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, CENAMIRA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
