Racing Incident Report
CAPABILITY began awkwardly and lost ground. FANTASTIC WIN was slow to begin. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, GEM MASTER got its head up when being taken back to a position with cover behind TRIUMPHANT GLORY. Also after passing the winning post on the first occasion, TRIUMPHANT GLORY was bumped by BAUHINIA which got its head on the side and shifted out. Near the 1300 Metres, TRIUMPHANT GLORY was steadied away from the heels of CITY SURFER. Near the 400 Metres, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE was bumped and carried wider by GEM MASTER which at this time was hampered and carried wider by KING OF SPADES (W M Lai) which shifted out when close to the heels of SINOSPIEL. W M Lai was told to exercise greater care. At the 400 Metres, SINOSPIEL and TRIUMPHANT GLORY bumped as SINOSPIEL shifted out when close to the heels of BAUHINIA which commenced to give ground. For a considerable distance after straightening, SINOSPIEL had difficulty obtaining clear running. For the major part of the race, TOUCH DOWN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CITY SURFER, B Prebble said he obtained a favourable position in the run, however, for the major part of the race his mount was inclined to hang outwards. He said in the early part of the Straight CITY SURFER took time to change lead legs, then did not respond to his riding. He said over the concluding stages CITY SURFER shortened up in its action. He did point out tonight’s track surface was firmer than those surfaces on which CITY SURFER had been racing competitively in its recent starts. CAPABILITY and BAUHINIA were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CAPABILITY and BAUHINIA after the race did not show any significant findings. CITY SURFER, KING OF SPADES and FANTASTIC WIN were sent for sampling.
