Racing Incident Report
SUPER POWER was slow to begin. On jumping, BAUHINIA from the outside barrier was taken back. Shortly after the start, LAZY BUDDIES was steadied when crowded for room between SIMPLY THE BEST and CHINSOLA which got its head on the side and shifted in away from MASTER YING. At the 1100 Metres, CHINSOLA, which was proving difficult to settle, shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of GEM MASTER. For some distance after straightening, WATCHMAN had difficulty obtaining clear running and near the 300 Metres shifted out and bumped TIMBER CITY. Over the concluding stages, WATCHMAN and MASTER YING raced tight. For the major part of the race, MASTER YING travelled wide and without cover. W M Lai (MASTER YING) explained he had been instructed not to ride his mount along in the early stages as in the past it had shown a tendency when racing over 1650 Metres to over-race. He said it was thought KAISER'S CHOIX which was drawn to his outside would lead and he should allow that horse to carry him in in an attempt to obtain a position with cover behind the lead if possible. He said MASTER YING had been successful when ridden in this manner previously. He said approaching the winning post on the first occasion he considered shifting to the fence in front of CITY SURFER, however, to do so would have required him to ride his mount along which may have caused it to over-race. KAISER'S CHOIX, CITY SURFER and GEM MASTER were sent for sampling.
