Racing Incident Report
While in the holding stalls, PURE ALPHA had its left hind plate refitted. PURE ALPHA was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. DANEPRINT was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between ME THE BEST and HAPPY SUNDAY which on jumping shifted in. Shortly after the start, CENTENNIAL SMILE was crowded for room between ME THE BEST and RISING WIN which on jumping shifted out. PURE ALPHA was slow into stride. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SPARKLE was crowded for room inside BOBO WIN which throughout the race hung in and at this point shifted ground away from SPEED OF LIGHT which shifted in slightly. No action was taken. Throughout the race, SPEED OF LIGHT travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Mr K L Man, the trainer of HARRY HARRY, explained as the horse had drawn the inside barrier tonight and was down in grade, he asked B Prebble, its rider, to have the horse ridden more prominently than it had been in its recent race starts. He said when racing in a higher grade from wider barriers, HARRY HARRY does not in his opinion have sufficient speed to be able to go forward and cross runners to its inside and therefore he feels the horse could be left racing wide and without cover if it is ridden in a forward position. He said because of this in recent starts he had asked the riders of HARRY HARRY to ride the horse more quietly. He said should HARRY HARRY draw favourably in its upcoming races, it will be his intention to have the horse ridden in a similar manner to tonight, however, if the horse draws awkwardly and it is anticipated it may be left racing wide, he will instruct the riders to find a position with cover. Mr Man was told his explanation would be noted. CENTENNIAL SMILE, ZERO GRAVITY and HARRY HARRY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported BOBO WIN had lost its right front plate.
