Racing Incident Report

GALLANT CHAMPION was slow to begin. Passing the 1700 Metres, KING DANCER got its head up on a number of occasions and proved difficult to settle. Rounding the Home Turn, OLE OLE became badly unbalanced after being bumped by BEST MILITARY which itself shifted out when brushed by VIGOR DELIGHT which at that time was improving between BEST MILITARY and STRAIGHT FORWARD. OSVALDO, which was following, was checked away from the heels of OLE OLE in consequence. In this incident, OLE OLE shifted out and bumped APPRECIATION which became unbalanced. At the entrance to the Straight, ABOVE ALL was steadied away from the heels of KING DANCER which shifted out to improve its position. From between the 350 Metres and approaching the 150 Metres, KING DANCER was badly held up and unable to obtain clear running. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, OSVALDO was held up and unable to obtain clear running. On a number of occasions passing the 150 Metres, OSVALDO was bumped by KING DANCER which shifted out after obtaining clear running to the outside of AMBITIOUS GENERAL. For the majority of the race, OLE OLE travelled wide and without cover. Following the race, H W Lai reported that, in his opinion, THE ONLY KID did not handle today’s “Good to Yielding” track surface. A veterinary inspection of THE ONLY KID after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. KING DANCER, GALLANT CHAMPION and FAT CHOY ICHIBAN were sent for sampling.
