Racing Incident Report
GIANT BLIZZARD was withdrawn on 4.5.10 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TOUT VA BIEN (M Du Plessis). Before being allowed to race again, GIANT BLIZZARD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. From a wide barrier, LIGHTNING MOUNT was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, GREAT SHOW momentarily raced tight inside HONEST TREASURE which shifted in. DASH raced wide and without cover until near the 800 Metres. Near the 400 Metres, GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY was hit across the nose by the whip of O Doleuze (LIGHTNING MOUNT). Approaching the 200 Metres, LIGHTNING MOUNT was checked when crowded for room between ICE FIRE which, after initially shifting out of its own accord, was taken out by DASH which itself shifted out and away from LAZY BUDDIES as that horse was improving towards its inside and GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY which shifted in after being bumped on the hindquarters by LIGHTNING MOUNT. As the Stewards were of the belief that no rider was careless in this incident, no further action was taken. When questioned, M W Leung stated that he was obliged to make some use of GOLDEN BOY in the early stages of the race to lead as he had been instructed. He said after obtaining the lead, GOLDEN BOY did not relax with TOUT VA BIEN racing at its hindquarter. He said rounding the Home Turn after being headed by TOUT VA BIEN, GOLDEN BOY gave ground quickly. The performance of GOLDEN BOY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN BOY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GREAT SHOW, Y T Cheng said the horse, which was having its first start on the All Weather surface tonight, in his opinion, resented the kickback and was a beaten horse at the 600 Metres. He said when GREAT SHOW gave ground quickly, he did not persevere in riding the horse out over the final 200 Metres. A veterinary inspection of DASH, GREAT SHOW and GOLDEN BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. GOLDEN BOY, SUPREME COMMANDER and LAZY BUDDIES were sent for sampling.
