Racing Incident Report

BRAVE HEART was withdrawn on 9.10.10 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right fore capped elbow) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter EIGHT PLUS NINE (Apprentice C Y Ho). Before being allowed to race again, BRAVE HEART will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LEO’S PRIDE was slow to begin. ISTIDE was crowded for room at the start between PACKING OK and HUSSLER which, despite the efforts of its rider, got its head on the side and shifted in. After this, ISTIDE was vigorously ridden to obtain a forward position, however, failed to muster speed and consequently raced back in the field. Shortly after the start, MACASSAR was crowded for room between PACKING OK and OWNERS’ GLORY which shifted out after being bumped by BOLD TACK. When being steadied shortly after the start from barrier 14, BEST WIN got its head in the air on a number of occasions. Approaching the 800 Metres, PACKING OK was brushed by WINNING EDGE which shifted in. A short distance later, PACKING OK was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BOLD TACK which at this time was steadied. PACKING OK then shifted in away from the heels of BOLD TACK, resulting in ISTIDE being badly checked. As the Stewards formed the view that there was no rider error involved in this incident, no further action was taken. Over the concluding stages, LONGWAH RISING and HUSSLER brushed on two occasions. Throughout the race, BEST WIN travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte reported that WINNING EDGE was making an abnormal breathing noise during the race. An endoscopic examination conducted by the Veterinary Officer after the race did not reveal any significant abnormalities with WINNING EDGE. WINNING EDGE, PRAISING, PACKING OK and LONGWAH RISING were sent for sampling.
<11/10/2010 Additional Veterinary Report> The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that BEST WIN had an ulcer to the right eye on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, BEST WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
