Racing Incident Report

HEXAGON was slow to begin. At the start, GLITTERING and VALUE CHOICE were severely checked when crowded for room between CHAIN WIN and WINFINDER which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. In this incident, CHAIN WIN, after being bumped on the hindquarters by VALUE CHOICE, was turned in across that horse which resulted in CHAIN WIN becoming badly unbalanced. From wide barriers, POWER AND GOLD and BERNINI were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the 1100 Metres, GLITTERING was severely checked when reluctant to maintain its position inside VALUE CHOICE which at this time was taken in by POWER AND GOLD which, after being initially directed in by GOLD JOINT, then shifted in and away from that horse. As the Stewards formed the opinion that GLITTERING’s racing manners had played a major part in this incident, no further action was taken. Passing the 1000 Metres, GLITTERING was again severely checked when reluctant to maintain its position inside BERNINI. When being checked, GLITTERING shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of BERNINI, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. Due to this incident, both BERNINI and GLITTERING lost considerable ground. Passing the 800 Metres, HEXAGON, which throughout the race travelled wide and without cover, proved difficult to settle. Near the 500 Metres, MARVELLOUS was bumped by GOLD JOINT which shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DR UNION. Near the 250 Metres, VALUE CHOICE was steadied when disappointed for running to the inside of WINFINDER. Over the concluding stages, KING CREOLE and WHITE DRAGON raced tight. A veterinary inspection of VALUE CHOICE and GLITTERING after the race did not show any significant findings. When being washed down after the race, GOLD JOINT reared and struck its head in the wash bay which resulted in the horse bleeding from the right nostril. An endoscopic examination of GOLD JOINT revealed that there was no blood in the trachea and therefore it was not deemed to have bled. Before being allowed to race again, GOLD JOINT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING CREOLE and DR UNION were sent for sampling.
