Racing Incident Report

LUCKY FOLLOW ME began awkwardly. From the outside barrier, SUNNY FAY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1100 Metres, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE was steadied away from the heels of DANEWIN WINNING (M Chadwick) which shifted in when not quite clear. M Chadwick was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. After the 800 Metres, SHAHJEE was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 700 Metres, RED LUCKY STAR shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING OF THE DAY. After this, RED LUCKY STAR continued to race keenly. Shortly after entering into the Straight, RED LUCKY STAR was checked when attempting to obtain a run between KING OF THE DAY and SHAHJEE (N Callan) which, after shifting out making the Home Turn, then shifted back in. As the Stewards formed the opinion that RED LUCKY STAR did not fully establish running between KING OF THE DAY and SHAHJEE, no further action was taken, however, N Callan was advised whilst he must at all times ride competitively, he must ensure that when shifting ground, he does not interfere with other horses. After making contact with SHAHJEE in this incident, RED LUCKY STAR shifted to the inside of the heels of KING OF THE DAY, causing inconvenience to PERFECT GEAR. INTELLECTUALSTRIDE, which was following RED LUCKY STAR, was also checked away from the heels of that horse as a consequence. LUCKY FOLLOW ME, which was also following RED LUCKY STAR, was hampered in this incident. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that he had been instructed not to use the whip in the Straight unless necessary. He said after leading the race, he rode the horse along vigorously hands and heels in the Straight and as it was finishing off the race only one-paced, he did not believe that it would be in the best interests of DANEWIN WINNING to use the whip on the horse in these circumstances. PERFECT GEAR, POCKET ROCKETS and INTELLECTUALSTRIDE were sent for sampling.
