Racing Incident Report
RACING REWARD began awkwardly, shifted out and in doing so was steadied away from the heels of CAPE CANAVERAL.
BRILLIANT PROPOSAL was crowded for room at the start between SAMADHI and GREEN ZONE which shifted in.
GOOD FELLOW was crowded for room at the start between GAMEKEEPERS which shifted out and GENUINE LEADER which shifted in after being bumped heavily on the hindquarters by GOOD FELLOW.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, BRILLIANT PROPOSAL was steadied away from the heels of GREEN ZONE.
Near the 500 Metres, GREEN ZONE shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GAMEKEEPERS and in doing so bumped GOOD FELLOW which became unbalanced.
Near the 150 Metres, GREEN ZONE got its head on the side and shifted out across the heels of SAMADHI.
Passing the 100 Metres, CAPE CANAVERAL shifted away from the heels of VICTORY GENERAL which shifted out, resulting in SAMADHI being taken out onto BRILLIANT PROPOSAL which was steadied away from the heels of SAMADHI.
Near the 50 Metres, SAMADHI raced tight between CAPE CANAVERAL which continued to shift out and TURF MAGIC.
Throughout the race, BRILLIANT PROPOSAL travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding his riding of CAPE CANAVERAL between the 1100 Metres until the 900 Metres, M Chadwick stated that he had been instructed to position CAPE CANAVERAL behind the speed if possible. He said however that he was told that he should not ride his mount aggressively to do so but rather CAPE CANAVERAL should have sufficient speed to follow the pace. He said after beginning well he noted in the early stages that GENUINE LEADER and GAMEKEEPERS were being ridden along to obtain forward positions and for this reason he elected approaching the 1100 Metres to shift CAPE CANAVERAL in behind those horses and obtain a trailing position. He said after shifting initially behind GENUINE LEADER before proceeding to the fence, he niggled CAPE CANAVERAL along to obtain the position behind those two horses. He said however that CAPE CANAVERAL did not show sufficient speed to maintain the position behind GAMEKEEPERS on the rail and he was reluctant to ride his mount aggressively at this time to obtain that position. He said this resulted in a margin developing between GAMEKEEPERS and CAPE CANAVERAL. He said after the 1000 Metres GREEN ZONE was shifted in to a position one horse off the fence and he did not believe that the rider of that horse would continue to shift over to the fence and he felt that this would allow CAPE CANAVERAL the opportunity to slowly improve its position to be closer to GAMEKEEPERS. He said however that near the 900 Metres GREEN ZONE was shifted in to a position on the fence in front of his mount and directly behind GAMEKEEPERS. He said for a short distance after this CAPE CANAVERAL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREEN ZONE and as a result raced further back in the field than had been intended. M Chadwick was severely reprimanded over his riding of CAPE CANAVERAL between the 1100 Metres until after the 900 Metres and advised by the Stewards that, in their opinion, his riding of the horse lacked judgement. He was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should have made more of an effort to maintain his position behind GAMEKEEPERS and not allowing GREEN ZONE to obtain the position in front of CAPE CANAVERAL. He was further advised that his riding of the horse during the relevant part of tonight’s race had come under notice and that in future he must ride his mounts in such a manner that is not open to query.
A veterinary inspection of RACING REWARD after the race did not show any significant findings.
GENUINE LEADER and TURF MAGIC were sent for sampling.
