Racing Incident Report
HOLY MAC was crowded for room at the start between EAGLE SPIRIT and CHINA DELIGHT, both of which shifted ground. A short distance later, EAGLE SPIRIT was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between EVERSPRING and HOLY MAC which shifted in.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, FUNNY FORTUNE was steadied to avoid the heels of PERFECT MOMENT (C K Tong) which shifted in when not properly clear. C K Tong was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he fulfils his obligation to be sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future.
Making the Home Turn, DRAGON PINS was bumped by REDWOOD BABY which shifted out to improve. Then shortly after straightening, DRAGON PINS was shifted out away from the heels of OWNERS’ GLORY to obtain clear running.
Near the 250 Metres, FUNNY FORTUNE momentarily raced in restricted room inside PERFECT MOMENT which got its head on the side and shifted in.
Passing the 200 Metres, DRAGON PINS got is head on the side and shifted out, resulting in inconvenience being caused to CHINA DELIGHT, FLYING IN and EVERSPRING.
Close to the finishing line, HOLY MAC was directed out away from the heels of EAGLE SPIRIT.
When questioned, G Mosse stated that he had been instructed to position CHINA DELIGHT at the rear of the field and ensure the horse was relaxed in the early stages. He said he was advised that if the tempo of the race was not strong, he should commence to improve his position around runners after the 800 Metres. He said in accordance with his instructions he shifted CHINA DELIGHT across to race at the rear of the field and his mount commenced to over-race after the 1100 Metres due to the slow tempo. He said after having to be steadied away from EVERSPRING for some distance approaching the 900 Metres, in accordance with his instructions, he shifted his mount to the outside of that horse and commenced to improve his position after the 800 Metres as the tempo of the race at this time was not strong. He added because of this CHINA DELIGHT was then left racing wide and without cover for the remainder of the race.
When questioned regarding HAPPY CENTENARY being ridden in a forward position, B Prebble stated that it was explained to him as the horse was only having its 5th start and was stepping up in distance to 1800 Metres, he should allow it to race where it was comfortable. He said it was anticipated that the race would not be run at a fast tempo and it was felt that the horse may be able to race in a more forward position than it had been in its starts so far over shorter distances. He added HAPPY CENTENARY began well and was able to take up a forward position without having to be ridden along at any stage.
A veterinary inspection of CHINA DELIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
REDWOOD BABY and HAPPY CENTENARY were sent for sampling.
