Racing Incident Report
EMERALD SPUR was withdrawn on 14.12.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter VICTORY VISION (M F Poon). Before being allowed to race again, EMERALD SPUR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
JOY MASTER shifted in at the start and bumped HAPPY WIN WIN which became unbalanced, shifted in and bumped PARTY EVERYDAY. HAPPY WIN WIN then raced in restricted room between JOY MASTER which got its head on the side and lay in and PARTY EVERYDAY which became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by HAPPY WIN WIN. This resulted in HAPPY WIN WIN being steadied passing the 1550 Metres.
From the outside barriers, WITNESS HUNTER, SHANGHAI RUSKY and JOYFUL FAMILY were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
M Chadwick (CHEERFUL LEADER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of AMAZING SATCHMO, causing that horse to be taken in across the rightful running of ONE STEP AHEAD which was severely checked near the 1300 Metres after being crowded for room between CENTRAL EXPRESS and AMAZING SATCHMO, both of which were badly hampered. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 1 January 2020 and to expire on Monday, 6 January 2020 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, M Chadwick was fined $25,000. In assessing penalty, the Stewards advised M Chadwick that whilst he has a good race riding record, they were of the view that the degree of interference suffered by primarily ONE STEP AHEAD but also CENTRAL EXPRESS and AMAZING SATCHMO was at the higher end.
Passing the 1100 Metres, CHEERFUL LEADER momentarily shifted in away from the heels of TELECOM ROCKET.
After the 1000 Metres, PARTY EVERYDAY was left racing wide and without cover.
CHEERFUL LEADER improved into tight running between SPIRIT PATCH and SAVVY SEVEN passing the 400 Metres and then raced in restricted room between those horses until passing the 350 Metres at which stage CHEERFUL LEADER shifted out and brushed SAVVY SEVEN.
Passing the 400 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of PARTY EVERYDAY which shifted out marginally.
Near the 350 Metres, HAPPY WIN WIN was shifted out away from the heels of AMAZING SATCHMO to obtain clear running.
When questioned, S de Sousa stated that due to the anticipated lack of speed in the race, he was asked to obtain a forward position on SAVVY SEVEN. He said after beginning only fairly, he had to ride his mount along for some distance in order to comply with his instructions. He said after the 1300 Metres he was left racing very wide and therefore he had to continue riding his mount forward to clear runners to his inside and it was not until near the 900 Metres that he was able to shift in to race outside the leader SPIRIT PATCH. He added because of the amount of work that he had to do on SAVVY SEVEN in the early and middle stages, SAVVY SEVEN was then not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of SAVVY SEVEN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
TELECOM ROCKET and CHEERFUL LEADER were sent for sampling.
