Background:
Caspar Fownes assisted his late father Lawrie for several seasons before gaining his licence in 2003/04. He eclipsed his father’s best season stats in his rookie year with 44 wins. In 2006/07 he won his first championship and has since added three more. Fownes claimed a fourth title in 2020/21 with an unrivalled 79 wins which included a second Hong Kong Derby triumph. He saddled his second Hong Kong Sprint winner with Sky Field in 2021, and he also scored a trio of Group 3 triumphs thanks to Zebrowski and Senor Toba that same season. Fownes is particularly known for his fine record at Happy Valley where he has notched 601 career wins – the most in history since Hong Kong’s professional era of racing began in 1971/72, while his previous best performers from his stable are Lucky Nine, The Duke, Super Satin, Green Birdie, Southern Legend among several more. Fownes has five top-level wins in Singapore, while he is only the fourth horseman in Hong Kong racing history to saddle 1,000 winners.
