Racing Incident Report

The Club's Veterinary Surgeon, Dr C P H Osborne, said that this morning he noticed SUPER GOAL STRIKER in the stable of Mr A S Cruz had a small amount of dried blood inside the near side nostril. He said he examined SUPER GOAL STRIKER and performed an endoscopic examination which did not reveal any abnormalities. He said he discussed the horse with the trainer who was anxious for it to run and after considering all the circumstances Dr Osborne said in his opinion SUPER GOAL STRIKER was today suitable to race. SUPER GOAL STRIKER left the gates very awkwardly, threw its head about, shifted ground and bumped the hindquarters of MAGIC HANDS. Turning out of the Straight the first time, HELENE VITALITY was momentarily unbalanced when close to the heels of MAGIC HANDS. In the early stages, PEAK POWER pulled very hard and was difficult to settle, about the 1600 Metres shifted away from the running rail, this momentarily caused SUPER GOAL STRIKER to race wider. In the early and middle stages, MOMENTUM pulled hard and proved very difficult to settle. About the 1400 Metres, SUPER GOAL STRIKER was steadied, came back behind PEAK POWER and took up a position closer to the rail. F Coetzee (SUPER GOAL STRIKER) said today he was instructed by the trainer to ride the horse back. He said it was anticipated there were two natural leaders and to give SUPER GOAL STRIKER the best chance of success today it should be ridden quietly. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said he noted blood in the near side nostril of SUPER GOAL STRIKER. He said a bronchoscopy was carried out and this did not show any signs of blood in the windpipe. Therefore SUPER GOAL STRIKER in his opinion should not be classified as an official bleeder. CHEERS HONG KONG was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
