Racing Incident Report

WIND PURSUER was withdrawn on 9.4.02 on veterinary grounds (sore off fore tendon) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter NIGHT HUNTER II (Y T Cheng). Before being allowed to race again, WIND PURSUER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, it was noted HIGHLAND LEGEND had its tongue over the bit. This was corrected before the horse was boxed. INSIGHTOREALITY missed the start slightly, was then further inconvenienced when crowded between COMPANION and PARADIS which on jumping shifted out abruptly. About the 700 Metres, COMPANION, which was inclined to be pulling, shifted in and brushed LIGHTNING BOLT. Again about the 600 Metres, COMPANION shifted in and brushed the hindquarters of LIGHTNING BOLT. S Dye (CARRY THE NEWS) said the horse went to the Start tonight with an outrider and was much more relaxed than it had been in its previous run. He said CARRY THE NEWS was loaded in order, however, just before the start reared, then jumped very awkwardly. He said throughout the event CARRY THE NEWS raced greenly, in his opinion did not handle tonight's going, in the Straight when making ground he changed course to find running. However, he did go on to say CARRY THE NEWS found the line in his opinion quite well and also the horse tonight did not hang as it had done in its previous runs. The explanations submitted were accepted. CARRY THE NEWS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said LIGHTNING BOLT was bleeding from both nostrils.
