Racing Incident Report

ALL FOR YOU was withdrawn on 22.2.02 on veterinary grounds (sore near fore tendon) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter GREAT DRAGON (K H Ting). Before being allowed to race again, ALL FOR YOU will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, LUCKY LAD became fractious, reared over and was momentarily cast. After being released from the gates, LUCKY LAD was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and on his advice the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. The overall barrier performance of LUCKY LAD was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. About the 600 Metres, ROMANTIC SYMPHONY became unbalanced when it bumped the hindquarters of ISLAND WEST TREBLE which had been racing wide, but at this time was taken out slightly by CAPE OF GOOD HOPE which shifted to the outside of BORN DRAGON. When questioned, Apprentice S K Sit (MASCOT TREASURE) explained the horse had drawn an inside gate, was one of the first loaded and because of the problems with LUCKY LAD, the horse was standing for a long time. He said his instructions were to race in the first two or three, but when the gates opened, MASCOT TREASURE, because in his opinion of the length of time it had been standing, was slowly away. He said he was also checked when tightened between SPRING FOUNTAIN which shifted out and ME AND YOU which on jumping shifted in abruptly and bumped MASCOT TREASURE rather significantly. He said because of this he was not able to carry out the instructions he was given and got much further out of his ground than planned. The explanations submitted by Apprentice S K Sit were accepted by the Stewards. When questioned regarding his riding of ME AND YOU from the early part of the straight until 100 Metres out, D Dunn said it clearly won the start, but then knuckled and shifted in abruptly. He said it was the first time he had ridden ME AND YOU in a race and he was carrying the whip in his right hand, the horse had a tendency to lay out throughout and in the Straight when he endeavoured to ride along, it hung out rather badly and he did experience some difficulty obtaining clear running. He said approaching the 200 Metres, he had to shift out to avoid GREAT DRAGON which was weakening, after the 200 Metres he was able to change the whip into his left hand, ME AND YOU started to improve some ground, but was immediately awkward behind BORN DRAGON and to continue going forward he again had to change course to the outside of ISLAND WEST TREBLE and after that ME AND YOU found the line strongly. It was decided not to proceed with the matter, but D Dunn was reprimanded regarding his riding in the Straight, was told at vital stages of the race he had come under notice and he should ride in a manner at all times which leaves no room for query. ST ALANN and MASCOT TREASURE were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, it was reported that ST ALANN was bleeding from both nostrils.
