Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, SILENT PARTNER was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. The horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. After being boxed, KEEN MARSHAL became fractious, reared and momentarily had its right fore leg over a partition. The horse was removed from the gates, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after being trotted up was considered suitable to race. Before being permitted to race again, KEEN MARSHAL will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. STRONG GALLOP was slow to begin. SPRINTER began awkwardly and was steadied away from the heels of SEASONS TREASURE. GOLD FIELD was slow to begin. In the early and middle stages, SEASONS TREASURE proved very difficult to settle. Near the 1300 Metres, MOMENTUM was checked when it lost its running as a result of FLORAL DYNAMITE being steadied away from the heels of SEASONS TREASURE which steadied in front and SPRINTER which was taken in by ELEPHANT DANCE. GOLD FIELD, which was following, was checked in consequence. Although the check was one of some significance, the Stewards believed it was inappropriate to take action against any one rider. At the 1300 Metres, STRONG GALLOP was checked away from the heels of UNIVERSAL CHARGER which itself was steadied when KEEN MARSHAL steadied in front. On straightening, UNIVERSAL CHARGER and SEASONS TREASURE raced tight and came together when inside the heels of NASA PEARL. In the Straight, GOLD FIELD hung out. Throughout the race, ELEPHANT DANCE was obliged to race wide and without cover. SPRINTER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, SPRINTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. MULTIWINNING and KEEN MARSHAL were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted MOMENTUM had returned with a laceration to the left hind leg. An inquiry into the reason for UNIVERSAL CHARGER being checked and blundering after the 200 Metres was adjourned until before the running of Race 1 at Happy Valley next Wednesday 28 May 2003.
Further to Racing Incident Report (released on 26 May 2003) :
The racing incident report from the Sha Tin meeting last Saturday stated that KEEN MARSHAL would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again. This embargo was placed on KEEN MARSHAL because it was fractious and reared after being boxed. The intention of the barrier trial was to show KEEN MARSHAL would behave suitably in barriers. Because of the behaviour of KEEN MARSHAL in the barriers last Saturday and its previous barrier behaviour, a stalls test was not believed to be the appropriate test for the horse to be subjected to.
The Stewards have today received a request from Mr A T Millard, trainer of KEEN MARSHAL, that when the horse is subjected to the barrier trial it be permitted to trial without pressure as the embargo was to consider the horse's behaviour in the gates. Mr Millard said the horse had performed well in the race on the weekend and it was his intention, if his request was acceded to, for KEEN MARSHAL to again be entered to run next Sunday 1 June 2003.
In the circumstances the Stewards considered Mr Millard's request reasonable and therefore acceded to it. KEEN MARSHAL will be subjected to an official barrier trial tomorrow.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 26 May 2003) :
After the race, SPRINTER was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SPRINTER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer P F Yiu yesterday morning and was noted to be stiff in the right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, SPRINTER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
