Racing Incident Report
SHERWOOD FOREST was withdrawn on 3.10.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore foot) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BUDDIES POWER (A Marcus). Before being allowed to race again, SHERWOOD FOREST will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHOW BRAVELY was slow to begin. BRILLIANT began awkwardly, bumped the outside of its gate and lost ground. At about the 1100 Metres, JOYFUL WORLD, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied when crowded for room between SOUTH CHINA NINETY and RECOVERY (W Woods) which itself was proving difficult to settle and shifted in slightly W Woods was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to do more than he had on this occasion to protect his fellow riders. At about the 1000 Metres, KING PALM was steadied when crowded for room between SOUTH CHINA NINETY and PRECIOUS MOMENTS (W M Lai) which shifted in when not quite clear. W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told similar riding could not be condoned in future. At the 800 Metres, DRAGON'S ERA became unbalanced and bumped the running rail when tight inside JOYFUL WORLD which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of KING PALM which momentarily got its head on the side and shifted in. TIGER DAN, which was following, was hampered in consequence. After the 200 Metres, KING PALM was steadied away from the heels of CHEERFUL HEART which shifted ground when hanging in. Over the concluding stages, SOUTH CHINA NINETY raced ungenerously when giving ground. KING PALM, JOYFUL WORLD and SOUTHERN LIGHT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted BRILLIANT had lost its right front plate.
