Racing Incident Report

POSEIDON was slow to begin. CONGEE KING began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of FLASH MAC. NIGHT HUNTER II began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, WOODSON was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between ASIA STAR and HORSE AROUND. Near the 800 Metres, CONGEE KING shifted in and bumped the running rail. In the middle stages, WINWIN COMBINATION hung out and near the 700 Metres was steadied away from the heels of NEWSWIRE. At the 600 Metres, WORLD STAR was crowded for room inside WOODSON which got its head on the side and shifted in away from HORSE AROUND which itself shifted in slightly. Shortly after this, WOODSON was steadied when momentarily placed inside the heels of HORSE AROUND. Throughout the race, GANBATTE raced wide and without cover. G Mossé (NEWSWIRE) said he had reviewed tapes of the horse's previous starts and noted it had a tendency to over-race. He said today the intention was to ride the horse with cover in the hope of enabling it to finish the race off. He said however after beginning well NEWSWIRE immediately proved difficult to settle and pulled its way into a forward position. He said prior to straightening NEWSWIRE was off the bit and he was riding along in an endeavour to stay in touch, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and in the Straight gave ground. He said the manner in which NEWSWIRE raced in the early stages would in his opinion have contributed to the horse's performance today. NEWSWIRE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A subsequent veterinary examination of NEWSWIRE did not show any significant findings. FLASH MAC, HORSE AROUND and NIGHT HUNTER II were sent for sampling.
