Racing Incident Report
AHEAD A HEAD was withdrawn on raceday afternoon by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right front fetlock swelling with wound). Before being allowed to race again, AHEAD A HEAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, SING FAY FAY and COUNTRY BOY bumped. Near the 1300 Metres, SING FAY FAY became unbalanced after bumping the running rail when tight inside PACIFIC ALLIANCE. B Prebble (SUNBELL) explained after passing the winning post on the first occasion he was aware that he was going to be racing in a three wide position and he elected to commence steadying back to shift to a position behind runners. He said as he did this ELEPHANT DANCE (O Doleuze) shifted in and caused some crowding to him, resulting in him steadying his mount. In the circumstances, O Doleuze was severely reprimanded and told whilst it might have been the intention of B Prebble to steady his mount at that time he should exercise more care than he did on this occasion. After the 1200 Metres, NORTHERNER was steadied away from the heels of SING FAY FAY. Just prior to straightening, COUNTRY BOY brushed the running rail. On straightening, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was steadied away from the heels of WINNING SUNSHINE which was carried wider by COUNTRY BOY. Over the concluding stages when giving ground, PACIFIC ALLIANCE hung in. Just prior to the winning post, NORTHERNER shifted out, causing S Sanders, its rider, to stop riding with the whip and straighten his mount. In the Straight, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT hung in. Throughout the race, ELEPHANT DANCE raced wide and without cover. When questioned, E Saint-Martin (WINNING SUNSHINE) said he looked to his inside after the 1100 Metres to see if there was sufficient room for him to shift in behind COUNTRY BOY to a position with cover. He said at this time he noted SING FAY FAY was travelling keenly on his inside and therefore he was obliged to remain racing one off the fence outside the lead. He said near the 800 Metres WINNING SUNSHINE was travelling comfortably and he considered going forward to put pressure on COUNTRY BOY, he therefore looked to his inside to see the manner in which SING FAY FAY was travelling as he was aware he had that horse held in a pocket. He said prior to straightening he went forward and put pressure on COUNTRY BOY, however, in the Straight WINNING SUNSHINE was disappointing and did not finish the race off. PACIFIC ALLIANCE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PACIFIC ALLIANCE after the race did not show any significant findings. NORTHERNER and KONRAD THE GREAT were sent for sampling.
