Racing Incident Report

EVER KING and SUGAR AND SON were slow to begin. At the 1000 Metres, NORTHERN ROSE was steadied away from the heels of FANTASTIC STAR which itself steadied to allow HIP HIP HOORAY to cross. At the 700 Metres, FANTASTIC STAR was carried wider by PICTURE PERFECT which at this time shifted away from the rail to the outside of HIP HIP HOORAY. For some distance after the 400 Metres, HIP HIP HOORAY was held up and unable to improve when behind ZERO IN and inside SHARKI. Near the 300 Metres, SHARKI was momentarily steadied away from the heels of PICTURE PERFECT. When questioned regarding his riding in the Straight, Apprentice H W Lai (CLASSA VICTORY) said the horse was well back, he then after the 400 Metres commenced to ride along hands and heels and as the horse did not make any impression he did not pull the whip. He said he continued to ride CLASSA VICTORY out hands and heels in the run to the line. Apprentice Lai was told to ensure he rides his mounts out in such a manner which will leave no room for query. M Rodd (EVER KING) said making the turn at the 800 Metres the horse became unbalanced and was reluctant to hold its position. He said he niggled along to try and make up ground, however, EVER KING did not respond. He said after the 400 Metres he commenced to ride along hands and heels and pulled the whip in the backhand position as there was a line of horses in front of him. He said EVER KING commenced to make ground near the 200 Metres, he shifted to the inside of NORTHERN ROSE, again rode along hands and heels and the horse closed the race off strongly. He said while he was not held up, he did have some difficulty in finding clear running. NORTHERN ROSE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, NORTHERN ROSE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, NORTHERN ROSE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SOLAR and SHARKI were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported EVER KING had lost its right hind plate.
