Racing Incident Report

RAIDER was slow to begin. On jumping, W M Lai, the rider of DAVE'S BEST, became unbalanced after that horse was bumped by HAPPEE OWNER which shifted in after being bumped by GREAT DELIGHT. HIMALAYA began awkwardly. Near the 900 Metres, SHANE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of HIMALAYA. Shortly after this, SHANE, which continued to race ungenerously, was unable to hold its position between WINTROW and DAVE'S BEST. After the 1200 Metres, WINTROW was steadied away from the heels of MY CHOICE. Throughout the race, HAPPEE OWNER raced wide and without cover and in the early stages proved difficult to settle. Near the 700 Metres, RAIDER was checked to avoid the heels of SHANE which became unbalanced and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of DAVE'S BEST. No action was taken. At the 700 Metres, GOODY was checked away from the heels of WINTROW. Y T Cheng, the rider of MY CHOICE, second placegetter, lodged a protest/objection against TRIUMPHANT UNICORN (S Dye) being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount after the 400 Metres. In the opinion of the Stewards, after the 400 Metres, MY CHOICE shifted out from behind GREAT DELIGHT in an attempt to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped TRIUMPHANT UNICORN. Shortly after this, MY CHOICE was then bumped by TRIUMPHANT UNICORN which was holding its ground. As the Stewards believed the incident was initiated by MY CHOICE shifting out, the protest/objection was overruled and the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. From after the 300 Metres until near the 100 Metres, GOODY was held up and unable to improve when racing between WINTROW and HIMALAYA and behind MY CHOICE. After the 100 Metres, GOODY was switched to the outside of GOOD PROFIT to obtain clear running. Because of this, GOODY was not properly tested. After the 200 Metres, MY CHOICE was struck on the nose by the whip of S Dye. Over the concluding stages, SIROCCO raced tight inside GOOD PROFIT. Because of this, SIROCCO was not ridden out right to the end of the race as it normally would be. Also over the concluding stages, HIMALAYA raced close to the heels of TRIUMPHANT UNICORN and because of this was also not ridden right out to the end of the race as it normally would be. KEY TO SUCCESS and WINTROW were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KEY TO SUCCESS and WINTROW after the race did not show any significant findings. TRIUMPHANT UNICORN and MY CHOICE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 11 April 2005)
WINTROW, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. WINTROW was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer J Size yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be slightly lame in the right front leg and it will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again. WINTROW subsequently passed the official veterinary examination this morning.
