Racing Incident Report

BLUE STITCH was slow to begin. NILOMETER began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CLASSIC MASTER. Approaching the first turn, DYNAMIC FUN got its head on the side and hung out, then again hung out approaching and making the turn at the 800 Metres. For the major part of the Straight, BUMPER BUMPER was held up and unable to obtain clear running between CLASSIC MASTER and DYNAMIC FUN, then near the 50 Metres when improving into a run between those horses was accidentally struck under the jaw by the whip of Apprentice C W Wong (CLASSIC MASTER). Because of this, BUMPER BUMPER was not properly tested. Just prior to the winning post, BUMPER BUMPER shifted in and bumped CLASSIC MASTER. From the outside barrier, WEALTHY TREASURE travelled wide and without cover throughout. When questioned regarding the improved performance of JOYFUL SPIRIT, Mr C S Shum, trainer of the horse, said at the horse's last start which was its first run in three months following injury and an enforced lay-off, JOYFUL SPIRIT raced too keenly as a result of its freshness. He added today JOYFUL SPIRIT was racing up a class and because of this the weight it had to carry was significantly less which was to the horse's benefit as was the fact it raced with the lead on a track that appeared to be suiting on pace runners. S Dye (GOOD PROFIT) said the horse was slow to begin, but that was of no significance as it usually races well back. He added for some distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres he was held up and unable to obtain clear running between PACKING ANGEL and INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS and following this the horse did not quicken and finish the race off and was most disappointing. He said when GOOD PROFIT had previously raced on tracks with give in the surface it had performed similarly and in his opinion it is better suited on firmer ground than that of today. GOOD PROFIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of GOOD PROFIT after the race did not show any significant findings. WEALTHY and JOYFUL SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
