Racing Incident Report

BOUNTIFUL and GOLD SANDFIELD were slow to begin. PEAK POWER began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. A PLUS FIT began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall, causing S Dye, its rider, to become unbalanced. After this, despite being hard ridden, A PLUS FIT failed to muster speed, got its head on the side and hung in. Following the race, S Dye reported throughout the race the horse did not stride out as he thought it should. A PLUS FIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of A PLUS FIT after the race did not show any significant findings. At the 1200 Metres, PEAK POWER was steadied when crowded for room inside GOLD SANDFIELD which shifted in away from the heels of LUCKY LAD. After the 400 Metres, PEAK POWER was steadied and shifted to the inside of DASHING WINNER to obtain clear running after being held up behind that horse. Near the 300 Metres, EAST OCEAN DRAGON was carried wider by ELEPHANT DANCE which shifted out. When questioned, Mr T W Leung, trainer of the winner, FLYING KENNY, said in his opinion the horse's poor performance at its last start was attributable to it being ridden by an apprentice jockey. He said he believed FLYING KENNY was better suited when ridden by a senior jockey and on that occasion he engaged the services of an apprentice only after he was not able to source a senior jockey to ride the horse. W M Lai (GOLD SANDFIELD) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said GOLD SANDFIELD travelled satisfactorily, however, did not quicken when asked for an effort in the Home Straight. He did say GOLD SANDFIELD in his opinion had not been suited by the tempo of the early stages of the race. GOLD SANDFIELD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, GOLD SANDFIELD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise, however, an endoscopic examination did not show any significant findings. He did note GOLD SANDFIELD was bleeding from a laceration to the tongue. AMPLE GAINS, FLYING KENNY and SAMBUOYANT were sent for sampling.
