Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, SUPER HONEY became fractious and momentarily got its left hind leg caught on the partition. SUPER HONEY was removed from the stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER HONEY will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. SUPER HONEY was slow into stride. TIGER STORM began awkwardly and lost ground. DANSKE VERY MUCH began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted in and bumped HAPPY CRUSADER. Approaching the first turn, ONE SHOT, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up. In the middle stages, DANSKE VERY MUCH, which was proving difficult to settle on several occasions, was steadied away from the heels of SUPER HONEY. ONE SHOT made the Home Turn awkwardly. Near the 200 Metres, SUPER HONEY, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of HAPPY CRUSADER. When SUPER HONEY was shifted out, RED FORTUNE, which was giving ground, was steadied to avoid the heels of that runner. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, CHAMP DRAGON was held up and unable to improve between TIGER STORM and ONE SHOT. Near the 200 Metres, CHAMP DRAGON was shifted to the outside of ONE SHOT. Near the 100 Metres, DANSKE VERY MUCH, which was closing the race off strongly, was checked when disappointed for running inside TIGER STORM which at this time was giving ground. Throughout the race, RED FORTUNE raced wide and without cover. G Schofield (SMART CHAMPION), which had drawn the outside gate, said he had been instructed to obtain a position with cover. He said SMART CHAMPION began well and he immediately took hold of it in an endeavour to obtain a position with cover. He said TIGER STORM improved on his inside and when this happened SMART CHAMPION proved difficult to settle. He said because of the manner in which the race was run to obtain a position with cover meant that he had to continually steady SMART CHAMPION to obtain a position behind QUICK NEWS although at the rear of the field. He said early in the Straight SMART CHAMPION quickened nicely, however, its run ended about 100 Metres from home. When questioned about the performance of TIGER STORM, R Fradd said after being tardy to begin he had to make some use of the horse to obtain the lead as instructed. He said once in the lead he was able to steady the tempo, however, the horse had no more to give after the 200 Metres and raced in a manner which indicated to him that it would derive benefit from today's race. TIGER STORM was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of TIGER STORM after the race did not show any significant findings. SMART CHAMPION, CHAMP DRAGON and ONE SHOT were sent for sampling.
