Racing Incident Report

B Prebble (KING HOGAN) and G Schofield (ENCHANTED) were severely reprimanded for being late to the Parade Ring. GOOD HEART and ENCHANTED were slow to begin. KIDDY SING bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. GALLANT FALCON began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1000 Metres, GALLANT FALCON got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of COURAGEOUSHEART. After the 800 Metres, SUNNY RIVIERA became unbalanced when crowded for room inside FLYING BISHOP which was racing tight inside NOBLE HEART. ROYAL ARMY and KIDDY SING, which were following SUNNY RIVIERA, were steadied in consequence. After the 500 Metres, KIDDY SING got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FLYING KENNY. For some distance after the 300 Metres, ROYAL ARMY, which was hanging in, was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SUNNY RIVIERA. After the 200 Metres, ROYAL ARMY again shifted in towards the heels of SUNNY RIVIERA. M Rodd (COURAGEOUSHEART) explained he had been instructed with the horse being first up today and carrying 129 lbs from the outside gate he should endeavour to obtain a position in 4th or 5th with cover if possible. He said KING HOGAN which had drawn to his inside began well and went forward, however, remained wide on the track in the early stages. He said near the 1400 Metres KING HOGAN went forward of him, he then shifted across behind that runner and initially was not able to obtain cover, however, near the 1000 Metres he was able to shift to a position behind NOBLE HEART. He said it was felt that as COURAGEOUSHEART was first up today to have made too much use of the horse in the early stages under its large weight would have resulted in it not being able to finish the race off. COURAGEOUSHEART and ENCHANTED were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, COURAGEOUSHEART was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise, however, an endoscopic examination showed that there were no significant findings. Also after the race, the Veterinary Officer reported ENCHANTED had bled from both nostrils. NOBLE HEART and GALLANT FALCON were sent for sampling.
